The BMI USA 6138 is a lead-free brass hex bushing designed to reduce pipe thread size in threaded piping assemblies. This fitting transitions from a 1-1/2 inch male thread to a 1-1/2 inch female thread down to a 1/2 inch female thread, allowing tradespeople to step down pipe diameter without additional adapters. Constructed from solid brass, it delivers reliable corrosion resistance and durability in a compact, hexagonal body that accepts standard wrenching. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters typically install this fitting in water supply, HVAC hydronic, and light commercial piping systems where thread reduction is required.
This hex bushing is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing installations where a threaded step-down connection is needed between pipes of differing diameters. It is commonly used in water distribution lines, boiler piping, and hydronic heating systems. The lead-free brass construction meets requirements for potable water contact applications, making it appropriate for use in drinking water supply lines and other health-sensitive piping contexts.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded brass hex bushing for use in standard NPT threaded piping systems requiring a 1-1/2 inch to 1/2 inch diameter reduction in residential and light commercial plumbing and hydronic applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before disassembly or installation. Apply thread sealant tape or pipe dope to male threads before assembly and tighten using an appropriately sized wrench on the hex flats. Do not overtighten, as brass fittings can crack under excessive torque.
