The BMI USA 4960 is a lead-free brass threaded nipple designed for use in potable water, plumbing distribution, and general piping systems. Machined from solid brass with a red finish, this nipple measures 2 inches in nominal pipe diameter and 6 inches in length. The threaded ends allow direct connection to standard NPT fittings, valves, and manifolds without additional adapters. Its lead-free construction meets modern plumbing code requirements for drinking water contact, making it the correct choice wherever applicable codes mandate lead-free materials. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing applications including water supply lines, boiler piping, and distribution manifolds. The 2-inch nominal size handles moderate to high flow demand lines typical in main distribution runs. The 6-inch body length provides clearance needed for offset connections or close-coupled valve assemblies where a close nipple or short nipple would not reach.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard NPT-threaded plumbing assemblies requiring a 2-inch by 6-inch brass nipple in lead-free applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off and depressurize the water supply before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten to hand-snug plus the appropriate number of turns using a pipe wrench — do not overtighten brass threads, as brass is softer than iron and can be damaged. Inspect all joints for leaks after returning the system to pressure.
