The BMI USA 4870 is a lead-free brass threaded pipe nipple designed for use in potable water, plumbing distribution, and general fluid-handling systems. Measuring 1.5 inches in diameter and 10 inches in length, this nipple provides a reliable threaded connection between fittings, valves, and piping runs. The red brass construction offers corrosion resistance and durability in both hot and cold water applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of nipple during new construction, remodel work, and repair projects where a short rigid extension or offset is needed between two threaded components.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing installations. Its lead-free brass composition meets requirements for systems carrying drinking water, making it appropriate for potable water supply lines, boiler trim, hydronic heating connections, and similar applications. The external threads on both ends accept standard NPT fittings and valves. At 10 inches in length, it provides a mid-length extension commonly used when a close or standard nipple falls short of the required reach.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-use fitting for residential and commercial threaded brass plumbing systems accepting 1.5-inch NPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten, as excessive force can crack fittings or distort threads.
