The BMI USA 4800 is a lead-free brass close nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing and mechanical systems. Close nipples, also called CL nipples, consist of two male threaded ends with minimal or no unthreaded center stock, allowing fittings to be joined in tight spaces. This nipple measures approximately 1-3/4 inches in overall length and is constructed from solid brass for reliable corrosion resistance. It carries a red finish and weighs 0.33 pounds. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in water distribution, hydronic heating, and general mechanical piping applications where a compact threaded connection is required.
This close nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing installations where NPT threaded connections are specified. It is commonly used to join valves, unions, tees, elbows, and other fittings with minimal standoff distance. The lead-free construction meets requirements for potable water service in jurisdictions that enforce lead-free standards for drinking water contact. It is appropriate for use in domestic water supply lines, boiler trim piping, and hydronic distribution systems where a short brass nipple is needed.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-service brass close nipple for NPT threaded plumbing and mechanical piping systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before installing or replacing any threaded nipple. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before assembly and tighten to hand-tight plus wrench-tight using pipe wrenches. Do not over-tighten, as brass threads can crack or strip under excessive torque.
