The BMI USA 4020 is a lead-free brass close nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing and mechanical systems. Close nipples are fully threaded end-to-end with no unthreaded center section, allowing two fittings or components to be joined with minimal clearance between them. At 2.875 inches in length and constructed from red brass, this nipple is suited for potable water, hydronic heating, and general plumbing applications where lead-free compliance is required. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers. The all-brass construction provides reliable corrosion resistance in wet service environments.
This close nipple fits residential and light commercial plumbing installations where space between fittings is limited. It is commonly used in water supply lines, boiler connections, and hydronic piping systems. The fully threaded design makes it compatible with standard NPT threaded fittings, valves, and couplings. Its lead-free construction meets requirements for potable water contact applications under applicable plumbing codes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-stock close nipple for threaded NPT plumbing assemblies in residential and light commercial systems.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the applicable International Plumbing Code (IPC) or local jurisdiction requirements. Shut off and depressurize the water supply before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply thread sealant tape or pipe compound to the male threads before assembly, and tighten using appropriate pipe wrenches. Do not overtighten, as this can crack fittings or distort threads.
