The BMI USA 4001 is a lead-free brass close nipple designed for threaded pipe connections in plumbing and mechanical systems. A close nipple is fully threaded end-to-end, making it the shortest possible nipple for joining two female-threaded fittings with minimal gap. At 2.5 inches in size, this fitting is suited for residential and light commercial applications where space between connections is limited. Machined from brass with a red finish, it carries a lead-free designation for use in potable water systems where compliance with lead-free standards is required. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this type of fitting.
This close nipple is used in water supply lines, hydronic heating systems, and general plumbing rough-in work. Its fully threaded profile makes it appropriate wherever two threaded fittings must be joined back-to-back without any exposed center pipe. Typical applications include connecting valves, unions, tees, and elbows in tight spaces. The lead-free construction makes it suitable for potable water service in jurisdictions that require compliance with applicable plumbing codes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 2.5-inch NPT female-threaded plumbing components and fittings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before installation. Apply thread sealant tape or pipe dope to the male threads before making up connections. Do not overtighten, as brass threads can be damaged by excessive force.
