The BMI USA 35553 is a malleable iron black pipe tee designed for joining threaded pipe runs in plumbing, gas, and general piping systems. The tee configuration allows a branch connection to a main pipe run, making it a standard fitting for split or distribution applications. With a 2x1x1 inch thread pattern, this fitting accommodates a 2-inch main run and two 1-inch branch outlets. The black finish is produced through an iron oxide coating process typical of gas-line and industrial piping fittings. Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters working on threaded black iron systems.
This fitting is suited for residential and light commercial applications including natural gas distribution lines, steam systems, compressed air lines, and general black iron pipe assemblies. The 2x1x1 reducing tee configuration is commonly used where a main 2-inch line must branch into two 1-inch supply legs. It is not intended for use with potable water systems in jurisdictions where black iron fittings are prohibited for that service.
Designed as a standard NPT-threaded replacement or new-installation fitting for black malleable iron pipe systems using 2-inch main and 1-inch branch connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, including IFGC requirements for gas piping applications. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any fitting. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium. Do not over-tighten threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack under excessive torque.
