The BMI USA 35540 is a black malleable iron pipe tee designed for joining and branching threaded pipe runs in gas, air, and general industrial piping systems. Weighing 2.16 pounds, this tee is built from malleable iron, which provides the ductility and impact resistance required in demanding mechanical and gas-distribution applications. The black finish indicates an oil-coating treatment standard for gas-service fittings. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this type of fitting when routing branch lines from a main supply run.
This tee is suited for residential and light commercial applications where threaded malleable iron fittings are specified. Typical uses include natural gas and propane distribution headers, compressed air branch lines, and general-purpose black iron piping systems. The 2 x 1-1/4 x 2 inch configuration allows a branch takeoff at a reduced center outlet while maintaining full-size run ports, making it practical for main-line installations that feed a smaller-diameter branch line.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitting for threaded black iron piping systems using NPT connections in residential and commercial gas and air distribution applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local codes, IFGC requirements for gas piping, or ASME B31 standards for pressure piping. Shut off and depressurize the supply line completely before cutting into or threading any existing piping. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not use this fitting beyond the pressure and temperature ratings appropriate for malleable iron threaded fittings in the specified service.
