The BMI USA 35489 is a black malleable iron pipe tee designed for threaded piping systems in plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical applications. This reducing tee connects a 1-1/2 inch run to a 3/4 inch outlet on one end and a 1/2 inch outlet on the other, allowing branch connections in multi-diameter pipe networks. Weighing 0.82 pounds, the fitting is manufactured from malleable iron, which provides the toughness and ductility needed to handle the mechanical stress of threaded assembly and system pressure cycles. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in both residential and light commercial work.
This tee is suited for residential and commercial gas piping, black iron distribution systems, steam and hydronic heating lines, and general mechanical piping where a reducing branch connection is required. The black finish is standard for gas supply and steam applications where galvanized fittings are not appropriate. Install locations typically include boiler rooms, mechanical chases, and utility areas where threaded black iron systems are the norm.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded black iron piping systems using standard NPT connections in residential and commercial plumbing, gas, and mechanical piping applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with local plumbing and mechanical codes, including applicable IFGC requirements for gas piping systems. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before disassembling any threaded connections. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before threading the fitting. Do not over-torque malleable iron fittings, as excessive force can crack the casting.
