The BMI USA 35483 is a malleable iron black pipe tee designed for threaded piping systems in plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical applications. This reducing tee connects three pipe runs in a branch configuration, transitioning between a 1-1/2 inch run, a 1 inch run, and a 3/4 inch outlet. Its black finish is typical of gas-line and low-pressure steam fittings. Malleable iron construction provides the ductility and strength needed to handle vibration, thermal cycling, and moderate mechanical stress without cracking. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting.
This reducing tee is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where a main line must branch off at a smaller diameter. Common applications include natural gas distribution, propane supply lines, low-pressure steam, and general-purpose threaded pipe assemblies. The three-way reducing configuration makes it suitable for situations where a full-size tee would require additional bushings or reducers, saving steps during rough-in work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded malleable iron pipe systems using standard NPT connections in plumbing, gas, and mechanical piping assemblies.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing and gas codes, including IFGC requirements where natural gas or propane is involved. Shut off the gas supply or water source and depressurize the line completely before disassembling any threaded connections. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before making up the joint. Do not over-torque the fitting, as malleable iron threads can be damaged by excessive force.
