The BMI USA 35460 is a black malleable iron pipe tee designed for joining three sections of threaded pipe in a T-configuration. This fitting accepts a 1-1/4 inch run with a 1 inch outlet and a 1/2 inch branch, making it a standard reducing tee used in gas distribution, compressed air, and low-pressure steam or water piping systems. The black finish indicates it is not galvanized, which is typical for natural gas and propane service lines. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting as part of threaded iron pipe assemblies in both residential and light commercial applications.
This tee is suited for residential gas piping, commercial HVAC gas train assemblies, and compressed air distribution systems where threaded malleable iron fittings are specified. The reducing configuration — 1-1/4 inch by 1 inch by 1/2 inch — allows branch takeoffs from a main run without additional bushings in many common layouts. It is appropriate for use where local codes and system requirements permit threaded malleable iron construction.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded malleable iron pipe systems using standard NPT connections in 1-1/4 inch, 1 inch, and 1/2 inch sizes.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, IFGC requirements for gas piping, or IPC requirements for water and air systems. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before disassembling or threading in new fittings. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack under excessive torque.
