The BMI USA 35455 is a malleable iron black pipe tee designed for joining threaded pipe runs in gas, air, and general-purpose piping systems. The reducing tee connects a 1-1/4 inch run on both the inlet and outlet with a 1/2 inch branch takeoff, allowing a single fitting to serve both the main line and a branch line without additional reducing couplings. At 0.88 pounds, the fitting is sized for light commercial and residential applications where a durable, corrosion-resistant black iron fitting is required. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and gas service technicians are the primary installers.
This tee is suited for threaded black iron piping systems commonly found in residential and light commercial gas distribution, compressed air lines, and industrial fluid conveyance. The 1-1/4 by 1-1/4 by 1/2 inch configuration is a standard reducing size used when a main line must feed a smaller branch, such as a gas drop to an appliance or an air line takeoff to a tool connection point. The black iron finish makes it appropriate for above-ground gas piping where galvanized fittings are not required by code.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use malleable iron tee for threaded black iron piping systems using NPT connections in residential and light commercial installations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or gas service technician in accordance with applicable codes such as the IFGC or IPC. Shut off the gas or air supply and depressurize the line fully before disassembling any existing fittings. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack if excessive force is applied.
