The BMI USA 35442 is a malleable iron black pipe tee designed for threaded piping systems in commercial and residential applications. The reducing tee configuration measures 1 x 3/4 x 1 inch, allowing a branch connection at a reduced diameter off a main run line. The black iron finish makes it appropriate for gas distribution piping, as well as steam, air, and water systems where a non-galvanized fitting is required. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting when a branch takeoff at a different pipe size is needed without adding a separate reducer. At 0.74 pounds, it is a compact, durable fitting built to withstand typical working pressures of threaded malleable iron systems.
This tee is suited for residential and light commercial piping installations including natural gas supply lines, propane distribution, compressed air lines, and steam systems. The reducing outlet allows a main line to continue at full size while tapping off to a smaller branch, a common configuration in gas appliance hook-ups and mechanical room piping layouts. Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), or the International Plumbing Code (IPC) depending on the service. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack if subjected to excessive force.
