The BMI USA 35420 is a black malleable iron tee fitting designed for threaded pipe assemblies in gas, air, and general plumbing distribution systems. This reducing tee connects two 1/2-inch run ports to a 3/4-inch branch port, allowing branch takeoffs without cutting into main line pipe. The black finish is produced through an oil coating process standard on malleable iron fittings, making it a common choice for gas piping and black iron systems. At 0.39 pounds, the fitting is compact and easy to handle during rough-in work. Licensed plumbers and gas fitters are the primary installers.
This fitting is suited for residential and light commercial gas distribution, compressed air lines, and threaded black iron piping systems. The reducing configuration — 1/2 inch on the run with a 3/4-inch branch — is a standard layout when stepping up to a larger supply header or stepping down to branch outlets. It is commonly installed during rough-in framing stages where multiple gas appliance drops branch from a larger main line.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard threaded black iron pipe systems in residential and commercial gas and air piping applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter in accordance with the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) or applicable local codes. Shut off the gas supply and verify zero pressure before opening any threaded connection. Apply thread sealant or pipe tape rated for gas service to all male threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten threaded fittings, as malleable iron threads can crack under excessive torque.
