The BMI USA 35348 is a black malleable iron reducing elbow designed to change direction in a threaded pipe run while stepping down between two pipe sizes. It connects a 2.5-inch pipe on the larger end to a 1.25-inch pipe on the smaller end, making a 90-degree turn in the line. The black finish results from an oil coating applied after casting, which provides a standard level of corrosion resistance suited for dry or low-moisture interior environments. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in gas distribution, compressed air, and general black-iron pipe systems.
This reducing elbow is used in residential and light commercial applications where a directional change and pipe size reduction are needed in the same fitting. Typical installations include natural gas supply lines, propane distribution piping, and black-iron compressed air systems. The 90-degree configuration eliminates the need for a separate reducing coupling and a standard elbow, consolidating two fittings into one connection point.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard trade fitting for black-iron threaded pipe systems using NPT connections in residential and commercial gas and compressed air applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, including IFGC requirements for gas piping systems. Shut off gas or air supply and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten, as malleable iron fittings can crack under excessive torque.
