The BMI USA 35274 is a 1/2 inch black malleable iron 45 degree street elbow used to change pipe direction in threaded piping systems. The male-by-female (street) configuration allows direct connection to a fitting without a nipple, saving space in tight installations. Constructed from malleable iron with a standard black finish, this elbow handles the mechanical stresses common in gas, air, and general plumbing distribution lines. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this fitting where a 45 degree directional change is needed in a 1/2 inch threaded line.
This street elbow is suited for residential and light commercial piping applications including natural gas distribution, compressed air systems, and water supply lines where NPT threaded connections are standard. The 45 degree angle allows for gradual direction changes compared to a 90 degree elbow, reducing turbulence and making routing around obstructions more manageable. It is a common fitting in mechanical rooms, utility spaces, and exposed piping runs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-use fitting for 1/2 inch NPT threaded piping systems in residential and commercial mechanical applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC or IPC standards depending on the service. Shut off and depressurize the supply line before disassembling any threaded connections. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to all male threads before assembly, and tighten fittings with pipe wrenches to avoid cross-threading or over-torquing cast iron. Do not use this fitting beyond its rated service conditions for the intended fluid or gas type.
