The BMI USA 35170 is a black malleable iron hex bushing designed to reduce pipe thread sizes in plumbing, HVAC, and gas piping systems. This bushing features a 1-1/4 inch male NPT thread on the larger end and a 1/4 inch female NPT thread on the smaller end, allowing techs and plumbers to transition between two common pipe sizes without additional fittings. The hexagonal outer profile provides solid wrench engagement for a secure, leak-free makeup. At 0.31 pounds, it is a compact, durable fitting suited for both residential and light commercial installations.
This hex bushing is used wherever a pipe run or equipment port requires a threaded reduction between a 1-1/4 inch line and a 1/4 inch port or branch. Typical applications include gas piping manifolds, compressed air lines, hydronic heating systems, and general plumbing rough-in work. The black finish and malleable iron construction make it appropriate for gas service and other non-potable applications where iron fittings are required by code or specification.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation hex bushing for threaded iron pipe systems using 1-1/4 inch and 1/4 inch NPT connections.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or HVAC gas piping technicians following applicable codes such as the IFGC or IPC. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium before making up the threads. Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench on the hex profile to achieve a snug, leak-free connection without over-stressing the fitting.
