The BMI USA 35169 is a black malleable iron hex bushing used to reduce pipe thread sizes in plumbing, gas, and general piping systems. The hex body allows a wrench to grip the fitting securely during installation, reducing the chance of slippage and damage to adjacent pipe threads. This bushing steps down from a 1-1/4 inch female thread to a 3/8 inch male thread and weighs 0.29 pounds. The black finish indicates a standard black iron coating suited for gas distribution lines and other non-potable applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this type of fitting.
This bushing is used in residential and light commercial piping applications where a concentric thread reduction is needed within a fitting or valve port. Typical scenarios include reducing a tee or elbow outlet to accept smaller-diameter pipe or a threaded valve connection. The hex body style is favored over flush bushings when access with a wrench is required in tight spaces.
Designed as a standard NPT-threaded hex bushing for use in black iron gas piping, steam, and general-purpose pipe systems requiring a 1-1/4 inch to 3/8 inch thread reduction.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC requirements for gas applications. Shut off the gas supply or isolate the water system before beginning any threaded pipe work. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before engagement. Do not overtighten, as malleable iron fittings can crack under excessive torque.
