The BMI USA 35150 is a malleable iron hex bushing finished in black, used to reduce pipe thread sizes in low-pressure piping systems. Hex bushings fit inside a female-threaded fitting or pipe end and accept a smaller male-threaded pipe or fitting on the opposite side, allowing technicians to step down from a 2.5-inch thread to a 0.75-inch thread without an additional coupling. The external hex profile provides secure wrench engagement during installation. This bushing is a standard fitting for plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical piping assemblies where a concentric thread reduction is needed.
Hex bushings of this type are used in residential and light commercial applications across plumbing, HVAC, and gas piping systems. Common install scenarios include connecting smaller-diameter branch lines to larger headers, adapting valves or gauges with 0.75-inch male threads into 2.5-inch female outlets, and general pipe routing modifications. The black finish indicates a non-galvanized malleable iron fitting, which is standard for natural gas and propane service lines as well as hydronic and steam piping.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard fitting for use in malleable iron NPT pipe assemblies common to residential and light commercial plumbing, gas, and mechanical piping systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, or HVAC technicians following applicable local codes including IFGC and IPC. Shut off the gas or water supply and relieve system pressure before disassembling any fittings. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium before threading the bushing into the female fitting. Tighten using a pipe wrench on the hex flats and inspect for leaks before returning the system to service.
