The BMI USA 35056 is a 4x3 inch black malleable iron pipe coupling designed for joining or transitioning pipe sections in plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical piping systems. The black finish is applied through a standard black oxide or paint process common to malleable iron fittings used in gas, air, and water distribution lines. At 5.46 pounds, the casting delivers the structural mass expected of a heavy-duty reducing coupling. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers for this type of fitting in commercial and residential mechanical systems.
This coupling is suited for use in threaded piping assemblies where a 4-inch line must transition to a 3-inch line, or where two pipe ends of matching size require a threaded union. Typical applications include gas distribution piping, compressed air systems, fire suppression rough-in, and general industrial or mechanical pipe runs where malleable iron fittings meet code requirements. The black finish makes this fitting appropriate for non-potable or gas service lines where a galvanized finish is not required or specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard fitting for use in threaded malleable iron piping systems requiring a 4x3 inch reducing coupling.
Installation of malleable iron pipe fittings should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes, the International Plumbing Code (IPC), or the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) where applicable. Always shut off the relevant gas, air, or water supply and depressurize the line before making any connections. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before threading the fitting. Do not over-torque threaded connections, as malleable iron threads can crack under excessive force.
