The BMI USA 35043 is a black malleable iron pipe coupling designed for joining threaded pipe sections in plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical piping systems. This reducing coupling connects a 2-inch pipe to a 3/4-inch pipe, making it a practical fitting for applications where pipe size transitions are required. The black finish is achieved through a standard mill lacquer coating common to malleable iron fittings. At 0.97 pounds, it is a solid, durable fitting suited for permanent threaded installations. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers for this type of fitting.
This coupling is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where threaded malleable iron fittings are specified. Common applications include gas distribution lines, steam systems, and water supply piping where a transition from 2-inch to 3/4-inch threaded pipe is needed. The black malleable iron construction meets the demands of higher-temperature and higher-pressure service conditions where other materials may not be appropriate.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard trade fitting for threaded malleable iron piping systems using 2-inch and 3/4-inch NPT pipe.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, including the International Plumbing Code (IPC) or International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) where relevant. Shut off all flow and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape to all male threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack under excessive torque.
