The BMI USA 35038 is a black malleable iron pipe coupling designed to join two sections of pipe in a threaded piping system. The coupling features a 1-1/2 inch by 1/2 inch reducing configuration, allowing connection between pipes of two different diameters. Its black finish is standard for gas piping and non-potable applications. Malleable iron construction provides the strength and ductility required to handle mechanical stress and thermal cycling in demanding trade installations. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers of this fitting.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and light commercial piping systems where a 1-1/2 inch line must transition down to a 1/2 inch line. Common applications include gas distribution piping, black iron supply lines, and mechanical room piping assemblies. The threaded ends accept standard NPT pipe threads, making it compatible with conventional iron pipe installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitting for threaded black iron pipe systems using NPT connections in residential and commercial mechanical applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable local codes and IFGC requirements where gas service is involved. Shut off gas supply or isolate the water system completely before beginning work. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all threaded connections. Do not overtighten threaded fittings, as malleable iron can crack if excessive torque is applied without proper technique.
