The BMI USA 35017 is a black malleable iron pipe coupling designed to join two sections of pipe in low-pressure plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical piping systems. The reducing configuration connects a 3/8-inch pipe to a 1/8-inch pipe, making it a practical solution when a step-down transition is required between different pipe sizes. At 0.11 pounds, the fitting is compact and lightweight without sacrificing the durability that malleable iron is known for in threaded pipe assemblies. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting during rough-in and repair work across residential and light commercial applications.
This coupling is suited for threaded pipe systems where a reduction from 3/8-inch to 1/8-inch is needed. Common applications include natural gas and propane distribution lines, steam and hot water piping, compressed air lines, and general plumbing rough-in work. The black finish distinguishes it from galvanized fittings and is standard for gas piping installations in many jurisdictions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement fitting for standard NPT threaded pipe systems requiring a 3/8-inch to 1/8-inch reducing coupling in black malleable iron.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, including the International Plumbing Code or International Fuel Gas Code where relevant. Shut off the gas or water supply and relieve system pressure before disassembling any threaded pipe connection. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before making up the joint. Do not over-torque the fitting, as malleable iron threads can be damaged by excessive force.
