The BMI USA 20373 is a 3/8-inch, 90-degree street elbow fitting machined from extra heavy malleable iron with a black finish. Street elbows combine a male thread on one end with a female thread on the other, allowing a direction change without a separate nipple. This extra heavy (XH) wall rating makes the fitting suitable for higher-pressure piping systems where standard-weight fittings do not meet specification. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in black iron pipe assemblies for gas distribution, steam, and industrial process lines.
This fitting is used in residential and light commercial applications where a 90-degree change of direction is required in a 3/8-inch threaded black iron pipe system. Common installations include natural gas branch lines, propane distribution piping, low-pressure steam systems, and compressed air headers. The street configuration is particularly useful in tight spaces where thread-to-thread makeup between two fittings is preferred over adding a nipple.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 3/8-inch NPT threaded black iron pipe systems, including gas, steam, and compressed air assemblies requiring extra heavy wall fittings.
Installation of threaded black iron fittings on gas lines must comply with the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) and applicable local codes, and should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter. Shut off and verify zero pressure at the line before breaking any threaded connection. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium before making up threads. Do not over-tighten malleable iron fittings, as the material can crack under excessive torque.
