The BMI USA 20372 is a 1/4 inch 90-degree street elbow manufactured from extra heavy malleable iron with a black finish. A street elbow connects a male end directly into a female fitting without a nipple, reducing the number of fittings in a run and tightening up space-constrained installations. This fitting is built to extra heavy (XH) pressure ratings, making it suitable for demanding piping systems where standard-weight fittings are insufficient. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in gas, steam, and compressed air systems as part of threaded pipe assemblies.
This fitting is used in residential and commercial piping applications requiring a 90-degree direction change in a tight space. The street configuration male-to-female threaded design is commonly specified where a close-coupled elbow is needed without additional pipe or nipple between fittings. Typical installations include gas distribution piping, low-pressure steam lines, and industrial compressed air systems where threaded malleable iron fittings are the specified connection type.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-service fitting for 1/4 inch threaded malleable iron piping systems using extra heavy rated components.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), or the International Plumbing Code (IPC) depending on the service. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before disassembling any threaded fittings. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the specific service medium before threading the fitting into place. Do not over-tighten threaded malleable iron fittings, as cracking can occur.
