The BMI USA 20304 is an extra heavy malleable iron 90-degree pipe elbow designed for use in threaded piping systems where added wall thickness and durability are required. Finished in black, this fitting provides a secure change of direction in gas, steam, or liquid piping runs. The extra heavy (XH) construction makes it suitable for higher-pressure applications where standard weight fittings are not rated for the job. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this type of fitting as part of new construction or service work on commercial and industrial piping systems.
This elbow is sized for 1/2-inch pipe and is well suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, gas distribution, steam, and compressed air piping applications. Its extra heavy malleable iron body withstands the mechanical stress of threaded assembly and the thermal cycling common in heating and process piping. The black finish is standard for gas and steam piping in many jurisdictions and is compatible with threaded black iron pipe systems throughout those configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install fitting for 1/2-inch threaded black iron pipe systems used in gas distribution, steam, and compressed air piping.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, including the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) or International Plumbing Code (IPC) where required. Shut off the gas supply or depressurize the line completely before disassembling or replacing any threaded fittings. Apply appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service before making up the joint. Inspect threads on both the fitting and the mating pipe for damage before assembly.
