The BMI USA 20204 is an extra heavy malleable iron 45-degree pipe elbow finished in black. Designed for use in threaded piping systems, this elbow changes flow direction by 45 degrees and is rated for demanding service where standard-weight fittings are not adequate. At 1/2 inch, it fits common pipe sizes found in commercial and industrial installations. Malleable iron construction provides durability under pressure and thermal cycling. This fitting is installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working on gas, steam, or fluid piping systems.
This elbow is suited for use in commercial mechanical rooms, industrial process piping, and anywhere a 1/2 inch threaded 45-degree change of direction is required. The extra heavy (XH) designation indicates heavier wall thickness compared to standard malleable iron fittings, making it appropriate for higher-pressure applications such as steam distribution and industrial gas lines. It is a common specification in retrofit and new-construction piping work where code or system design calls for XH-rated fittings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1/2 inch threaded piping systems requiring an extra heavy malleable iron 45-degree elbow.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the International Plumbing Code or International Fuel Gas Code. Shut down and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten to proper engagement using pipe wrenches — do not over-torque. Inspect threads for damage before installation.
