The BMI USA 20052 is a 3-inch by 2-inch extra heavy black malleable iron reducing coupling used to connect pipes of two different diameters in threaded piping systems. The extra heavy (XH) wall rating makes it suitable for high-pressure and demanding industrial or commercial applications where standard-weight fittings are not appropriate. The black finish indicates an untreated surface typical of gas and industrial service applications. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and gas service technicians are the primary installers of this fitting.
This reducing coupling is commonly used in residential and commercial gas distribution piping, industrial process piping, and compressed air systems where a transition from 3-inch to 2-inch threaded pipe is required. The extra heavy malleable iron construction is well suited for environments with elevated pressure ratings or where added mechanical strength is needed at the joint. It is installed wherever a threaded pipe reduction is specified in the system design.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use fitting for threaded black iron piping systems requiring a 3-inch to 2-inch diameter reduction in extra heavy service class.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) or International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off and depressurize the piping system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before threading the fitting into place. Do not overtighten threaded joints, as malleable iron fittings can crack under excessive torque.
