The BMI USA 20040 is an extra heavy malleable iron pipe coupling with a black finish, designed for joining threaded pipe sections in demanding plumbing and mechanical piping systems. The reducing configuration connects 2-inch pipe to 1-1/2-inch pipe, making it a practical fitting for transitions within a piping run. At 2.58 pounds, the extra heavy wall construction provides greater strength than standard-weight fittings, suited for higher-pressure or industrial-grade service. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers for this type of threaded fitting.
This coupling is used in residential and commercial plumbing, industrial piping, and mechanical room applications where a threaded reducing connection is required between 2-inch and 1-1/2-inch pipe. The black finish is standard for gas piping applications and non-corrosive dry systems. The extra heavy rating makes it appropriate for systems that require heavier wall fittings over standard or schedule classifications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation threaded reducing coupling for 2-inch to 1-1/2-inch NPT piping systems in plumbing and mechanical applications.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable local plumbing codes and IFGC requirements where gas service is involved. Shut off the gas or isolate and depressurize the water or fluid system before disassembling any threaded connection. Apply listed thread sealant or PTFE tape appropriate for the service medium before threading the coupling onto the pipe. Do not over-torque malleable iron fittings, as the material can crack under excessive force.
