The BMI USA 20035 is an extra heavy black malleable iron pipe coupling designed to join threaded pipe sections in high-pressure piping systems. Rated for 300 PSI service, it provides a robust mechanical connection suitable for steam, gas, and fluid distribution lines. The coupling measures 1-1/2 inches by 1-1/4 inches, making it a reducing fitting that connects two different pipe sizes in a single pass. The extra heavy (XH) wall designation means thicker casting walls compared to standard or Class 150 fittings, giving it greater strength under elevated pressure and temperature conditions. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers for this type of fitting.
This coupling is suited for commercial and industrial piping applications where standard malleable iron fittings do not meet the pressure or mechanical demands of the system. Typical installations include steam distribution, compressed air headers, fire protection branch lines, and natural gas mains where extra heavy fittings are specified by code or engineering design. The black finish indicates the fitting has not been galvanized, which is appropriate for steam and gas service where galvanized coatings are generally not recommended.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for extra heavy Class 300 threaded malleable iron piping systems requiring a 1-1/2 inch by 1-1/4 inch reducing coupling.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable mechanical and plumbing codes, including IFGC and IPC requirements where relevant. Shut down and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium before making up the joint. Do not over-torque the fitting, as malleable iron threads can crack under excessive force.
