The BMI USA 20023 is an extra heavy black malleable iron pipe coupling designed to join threaded pipe sections in plumbing, gas, and industrial piping systems. It features a reducing configuration, connecting 3/4-inch pipe to 1/2-inch pipe, making it a reliable fitting for transitions between pipe sizes. The black finish indicates an oil-dipped coating standard for gas line and industrial applications. Extra heavy (XH) wall construction provides greater pressure tolerance than standard-weight fittings. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of coupling in both residential and commercial settings.
This coupling is suited for use in gas distribution piping, steam systems, compressed air lines, and general industrial pipe assemblies where extra heavy duty threaded fittings are specified. The reducing design allows integration into mixed-size piping runs without additional bushings in many configurations. It is appropriate for applications demanding greater wall thickness and mechanical strength than standard malleable iron fittings provide.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation threaded pipe coupling for use with standard NPT-threaded malleable iron pipe systems in gas, plumbing, and industrial applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), or the International Plumbing Code (IPC) as appropriate to the system type. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten; use a properly sized pipe wrench and follow standard NPT engagement practices.
