The BMI USA 20006 is a black extra heavy malleable iron pipe coupling designed for joining sections of threaded pipe in demanding plumbing and mechanical piping systems. Manufactured from extra heavy malleable iron, this coupling provides added wall thickness and durability over standard-weight fittings, making it well suited for high-pressure or high-stress applications. The black finish is standard for gas piping and similar systems where corrosion resistance from a protective coating is required. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting in both new construction and retrofit work.
This coupling is appropriate for use in residential and commercial gas distribution, steam, and industrial piping systems where extra heavy fittings are specified. The black malleable iron construction meets the material requirements commonly called out in mechanical and plumbing specifications for threaded iron pipe systems. It is used wherever two sections of threaded pipe must be connected inline without directional change.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded iron pipe systems requiring extra heavy malleable iron couplings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local mechanical and plumbing codes, including IPC and IFGC requirements. Shut off the gas supply or isolate the piping system and depressurize fully before beginning any fitting work. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium to all threaded connections before assembly. Do not over-tighten; follow standard trade practice for NPT threaded iron fittings using a pipe wrench.
