The BMI USA 10769 is a black steel pipe nipple sized at 1.25 inches in diameter and 9 inches in length. Pipe nipples are short threaded sections used to connect two fittings, valves, or other piping components in a run. This nipple's black finish comes from a mill-applied iron oxide coating suited for gas lines and low-pressure steam or air applications. At 1.6 pounds, it is a solid, all-steel fitting intended for installation by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, or gas technicians working on commercial or residential systems.
This black steel pipe nipple is commonly used in natural gas distribution lines, propane supply runs, steam heating systems, and compressed air piping. The black finish makes it appropriate for interior gas piping where galvanized fittings are not permitted by code. It is a standard threaded fitting that fits within conventional schedule 40 black iron piping systems found in both residential and light commercial construction.
Designed as a standard OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1.25-inch black iron pipe systems using NPT threaded connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or qualified gas technician in accordance with applicable local codes and the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) or International Plumbing Code (IPC) as relevant. Shut off the gas supply or depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium to all threaded connections. Do not use this black steel fitting in wet or exterior applications where corrosion resistance is required.
