The BMI USA 10477 is a black steel pipe nipple used to connect threaded pipe sections in gas, air, and liquid piping systems. At 0.5 inch nominal pipe size and 10.5 inches in length, it provides a reliable threaded extension between fittings, valves, and equipment. The black finish results from a mill-applied iron oxide coating that offers basic corrosion resistance in dry indoor environments. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this type of nipple as a standard component in low-pressure gas distribution, compressed air lines, and general piping assemblies.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial applications where a 0.5 inch NPT threaded connection is required. Common installation scenarios include gas line branch drops to appliances, boiler room piping, and air compressor distribution headers. The 10.5 inch length fills longer gaps between fittings without the need for a union or coupling in the run. It is a standard close-out piece in gas appliance rough-in work.
Designed as a standard 0.5 inch NPT black steel pipe nipple for use with compatible threaded fittings, valves, and couplings in residential and light commercial gas, air, and liquid piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, IFGC requirements for gas piping, or ASME B31 standards for pressure piping. Shut off and depressurize the supply line before threading or removing any fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before making up the joint. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as this can crack fittings or distort threads.
