The BMI USA 10170 is a black steel pipe nipple designed for use in gas, water, and general-purpose piping systems. Measuring 1/8 inch in diameter and 10 inches in length, this nipple serves as a short threaded connector between pipe fittings, valves, or other threaded components. The black finish is a standard mill coating applied to carbon steel pipe nipples commonly used in low-pressure gas distribution and industrial piping. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install these nipples during new construction and service work where a threaded male-to-male connection is required.
This pipe nipple is suited for residential and light commercial piping applications including natural gas supply lines, black iron distribution systems, and general fluid conveyance where steel pipe is specified. It is commonly used behind gas appliances, at meter sets, and throughout interior gas piping runs. The 1/8-inch nominal size fits low-flow branch connections and instrument taps in a variety of piping assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard component for black iron threaded piping systems using 1/8-inch nominal pipe size fittings and valves.
Pipe nipples of this type are installed by licensed plumbers or HVAC technicians following applicable local codes and IFGC requirements for gas piping or IPC requirements for water and general-purpose systems. Shut off gas supply or isolate the water system before disconnecting or installing any threaded pipe component. Apply approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as this can crack fittings or damage threads.
