The BMI USA 10168 is a black steel pipe nipple sized at 1/8 inch by 8 inches, used to connect threaded pipe sections in low-pressure gas, air, and water distribution systems. The black oxide finish is standard for gas piping applications and distinguishes these fittings from galvanized or chrome alternatives. At 0.16 pounds, it is a lightweight component but is constructed from steel for durability under normal service conditions. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install these nipples as part of threaded pipe assemblies in both residential and light commercial settings.
This nipple is suited for use in interior gas piping runs, compressed air lines, and non-potable water systems where black steel pipe is the specified material. The 1/8 inch diameter makes it appropriate for branch lines, pilot gas supplies, appliance connections, and similar low-flow applications. It threads directly into standard NPT fittings and pipe couplings without modification.
Designed as a standard replacement or new-installation nipple for threaded black steel pipe systems using 1/8 inch NPT fittings in residential and light commercial applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing and mechanical codes, including IFGC requirements for gas piping. Shut off gas or air supply and relieve system pressure before disassembling or replacing any threaded fitting. Apply a code-approved thread sealant or tape rated for the service medium before making up threaded joints. Do not over-tighten, as this can crack fittings or damage threads.
