The BMI USA 10044 is a black steel pipe nipple used to connect threaded pipe sections in plumbing, gas, and industrial piping systems. At 4.5 inches in length with a standard 4-inch nominal diameter on both ends, this nipple provides a rigid, close-coupled joint between fittings, valves, or equipment connections. The black steel finish indicates this nipple is manufactured without galvanizing, making it well suited for natural gas and propane distribution lines as well as non-potable water and steam applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this type of fitting.
This pipe nipple is commonly used in residential and light commercial gas supply lines, fire suppression headers, steam heating systems, and industrial process piping where a threaded connection of moderate length is required. The 4.5-inch body length accommodates installations that need more clearance than a close nipple but less extension than a longer hex or running nipple. It is appropriate for above-ground, exposed, or concealed installations per applicable local code requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install fitting for standard NPT threaded piping systems using 4-inch nominal black steel pipe.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) or International Plumbing Code (IPC) as applicable. Shut off and depressurize the line before threading or removing any fittings. Apply a code-approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before assembly. Do not use this black steel nipple in potable water systems or in applications requiring galvanized or stainless fittings.
