The BMI 46809 is a 2-inch carbon steel press-fit male adapter designed for natural gas and propane distribution systems. It connects press-fit piping to male-threaded fittings or valves without soldering, welding, or open flame, making it well suited for gas line installations and retrofits in both new construction and existing systems. The press-fit connection method reduces labor time and requires only a compatible press tool for a secure, leak-tested joint. Licensed plumbers and gas fitters are the primary installers of this fitting in commercial and residential applications.
This adapter is used where a carbon press gas piping system transitions to a male-threaded connection point, such as at a valve, appliance stub-out, or manifold. At 2 inches, it fits main distribution runs and larger branch lines in residential or light commercial gas systems. The carbon steel construction is appropriate for dry natural gas and propane service in interior piping configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style fitting for carbon press gas piping systems. Specific system and tool compatibility should be verified against the press-fit system manufacturer's requirements before installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter in accordance with the International Fuel Gas Code and all applicable local codes. Shut off and depressurize the gas line completely before cutting into existing piping. A manufacturer-approved press tool with the correct jaw size is required to achieve a proper press-fit connection. Never pressurize the system before all joints have been pressed and visually inspected.
