The BMI 46123 is a carbon steel press-fit bushing designed for natural gas and propane distribution piping. It transitions from a 3/4-inch fitting (FTG) connection to a 1/2-inch press-fit connection, allowing installers to reduce pipe size within a gas line system without threading or soldering. Carbon steel construction is standard for press gas applications, providing the strength and integrity required by code for fuel gas piping. Licensed plumbers and gas fitters install this fitting as part of rough-in and service work on residential and light commercial gas distribution systems.
This bushing is suited for press-fit gas piping installations where a size reduction is needed at a branch, appliance connection, or distribution point. The FTG by press-fit configuration allows one end to socket into a fitting hub while the press-fit end is secured using a compatible press tool and jaw set rated for gas press fittings. It is categorized as a carbon press gas fitting, consistent with systems using carbon steel press components throughout the gas train.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-stock bushing for carbon steel press-fit gas piping systems in residential and light commercial applications.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter in accordance with IFGC and applicable local fuel gas codes. Shut off and bleed the gas supply before working on any section of the piping system. Use only a press tool and jaw set rated and approved for carbon steel press gas fittings — do not use press tooling rated for water or hydronic service only. After installation, pressure-test the completed joint and all surrounding connections per code requirements before restoring gas service.
