The BMI 35440 is a black malleable iron reducing tee fitting designed for use in threaded pipe systems. The tee features a 1-inch run with a 1/2-inch branch outlet, allowing a single fitting to reduce branch flow from a main line without additional reducers. Malleable iron construction provides the strength and ductility needed to handle the mechanical stress of threaded assembly and the pressure demands of gas, air, and water distribution systems. At 0.29 pounds, it is a compact fitting suited for tight mechanical spaces. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians are the typical installers.
This reducing tee is used in residential and light commercial piping applications including natural gas supply lines, compressed air distribution, and low-pressure water systems. The black finish is standard for gas piping installations where galvanized fittings are not appropriate. The 1 x 1/2-inch reducing configuration is a common branch-down size used when a main gas or air line feeds a smaller downstream appliance or zone.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard NPT threaded black malleable iron pipe systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC requirements for gas piping. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before disassembly or installation. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium before making up the joint. Do not over-torque threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack if excessive force is applied.
