The BMI 35429 is a reducing malleable iron tee finished in black, used to split or combine pipe flow at a branch point in threaded piping systems. The fitting connects a 3/4-inch run to a 1/2-inch branch outlet, making it a standard reducing tee for residential and light commercial plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical piping work. Malleable iron construction provides the ductility and strength needed to handle threaded assembly and moderate mechanical stress without cracking, which is why this material is common in gas and steam piping applications.
This tee is suited for use in threaded black iron piping systems, including natural gas and propane distribution lines, steam heating systems, and compressed air distribution. The black finish is typical for gas piping applications where galvanized fittings are not permitted or preferred. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians regularly use this fitting when transitioning pipe sizes within a branch run during rough-in or system modification work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard replacement fitting for threaded black malleable iron pipe systems using NPT connections in 3/4-inch by 1/2-inch reducing configurations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local codes, the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), or the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off and depressurize the line before disassembly or fitting installation. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or pipe-thread compound rated for the intended service medium before assembly. Do not over-thread or use on copper, CPVC, or other incompatible pipe materials.
