The BLUE MONSTER 70166 is a 120-grit aluminum oxide abrasive cloth designed for surface preparation in plumbing, mechanical, and metalworking applications. The abrasive is bonded to a flexible nylon fabric backing that resists moisture, making it well suited for wet or damp work environments. The roll measures 1.5 inches wide by 25 yards long, giving technicians a practical supply for ongoing jobsite use. It cuts aggressively enough to clean oxidation and scale from copper tubing and fittings while leaving a surface ready for soldering or brazing. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors typically keep this roll as a standard hand tool consumable.
The 70166 is used primarily for cleaning, deburring, and polishing copper pipe, fittings, and other metal components before soldering or brazing. The 1.5-inch width fits standard copper tubing sizes commonly found in residential and light commercial plumbing systems. The flexible nylon backing conforms to curved and irregular surfaces, making it effective for working around fittings, valves, and tight pipe connections where a rigid abrasive would be awkward. The 25-yard roll length supports extended use before replacement is needed.
Designed for surface preparation of copper tubing, brass fittings, and other metal components in plumbing, mechanical, and metalworking applications where pre-solder or pre-braze cleaning is required.
This abrasive cloth is a hand-use consumable installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters during pipe preparation. Tear or cut the required length from the roll, wrap it around the pipe or fitting surface, and work it in a back-and-forth motion until oxidation and scale are fully removed. Wipe the cleaned surface with a clean rag before applying flux to avoid contaminating the joint. Wear appropriate eye protection and gloves when working with abrasive materials.
