The BK 521-987BG is a hexagonal black malleable iron bushing designed to reduce pipe connections from a 2-inch male thread to a 1-1/2-inch female thread. Used in gas, air, and general-purpose piping systems, this bushing provides a durable threaded transition between two different pipe sizes. The malleable iron construction meets ANSI/ASTM A-197 material standards, and all threads conform to ANSI B1.20.1 for reliable leak-free joints. Each fitting is individually flag tagged and 100% inspected and quality tested before leaving the facility. Plumbers and pipefitters install this type of bushing during new construction and retrofit work where pipe size reductions are required.
This bushing is suited for residential and light commercial piping applications including gas distribution, compressed air lines, and water supply systems where a threaded reduction is needed. The hex body allows for standard wrench engagement during installation, making it practical in tight spaces. The black iron finish is appropriate for gas line applications where a galvanized finish is not required or permitted. Each unit is sold individually.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded reduction fitting for standard black iron pipe systems using NPT connections in residential and commercial piping installations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC requirements for gas line work. Shut off gas supply or depressurize the line completely before making or breaking any threaded connections. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before threading the bushing into place. Do not overtighten; use the hex body with an appropriate pipe wrench for controlled engagement.
