The BK 521-986BG is a black malleable iron hex bushing designed to reduce a 2-inch male pipe thread down to a 1-1/4-inch female pipe thread. This fitting is used to transition between two different pipe sizes within a threaded iron piping system. It meets ANSI/ASTM A-197 material standards, with dimensions conforming to ANSI/ASME B16.14 and B16.39, and threads cut to ANSI B1.20.1. Plumbers and pipefitters install this bushing as part of gas, water, or steam distribution systems where reducing couplings or bushings are required to adapt different pipe diameters.
This hex bushing is suited for residential and light commercial piping applications where black iron fittings are specified. Common installations include gas distribution lines, steam systems, and fire suppression headers where threaded black iron pipe is the standard material. Each fitting arrives individually flag tagged and has the Mueller logo cast directly into the body. This part is sold individually.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation bushing for threaded black iron piping systems requiring a 2-inch male to 1-1/4-inch female reduction.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters working on threaded iron pipe systems. Shut off gas or water supply and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply listed pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Tighten using a pipe wrench or hex wrench on the fitting body; do not over-torque malleable iron fittings as they are subject to cracking.
