The BK 521-985BG is a hexagon bushing cast from black malleable iron, designed to reduce a 2-inch male-threaded pipe connection down to a 1-inch female-threaded port. Hex bushings are a standard fitting in gas, steam, and water piping systems where a change in pipe diameter is required without adding extra fittings. Weighing 0.634 pounds, this bushing meets ANSI/ASTM A-197 material standards and ANSI/ASME B16.3 and B16.39 dimensional standards. Threads are cut to ANSI B1.20.1 for consistent thread form and engagement. Each fitting is individually flag tagged and 100 percent inspected before shipment.
This bushing is suited for residential and light commercial piping applications including gas distribution lines, compressed air systems, and hydronic heating systems. Plumbers and pipefitters use hex bushings when transitioning between pipe sizes in close-quarters installations where a reducing coupling will not fit. The hex profile allows a pipe wrench or open-end wrench to drive the fitting into the larger-threaded fitting or valve body without damaging adjacent components.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard NPT black iron pipe systems in gas, steam, air, and water service applications.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable codes including IFGC and ASME B31 piping standards. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply a code-approved thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to the male threads before assembly. Do not over-torque the fitting; thread engagement depth is defined by the ANSI B1.20.1 specification for the pipe size.
