The BK 521-963HN is a black malleable iron hex bushing designed to reduce a 1-1/4 inch male pipe thread to a 1/2 inch female pipe thread. This fitting is used to connect pipes of two different sizes in low-pressure gas, water, and steam piping systems. The hexagonal body allows for wrench engagement during installation and removal. Material conforms to ANSI/ASTM A-197 malleable iron standards. Dimensions meet ANSI/ASME B16.14 and B16.39. Threads are cut to ANSI B1.20.1 NPT standards. The Mueller logo is cast into the body of each fitting. Each fitting is individually flag tagged and 100% inspected before shipment.
This hex bushing is a standard component in residential and light commercial plumbing and gas piping installations. It is commonly used in distribution piping, appliance connections, and utility rough-in work where a threaded size reduction is needed between iron pipe segments. Licensed plumbers and gas fitters install this fitting in black iron pipe systems running natural gas, propane, steam, or water service.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for black iron threaded pipe systems using standard NPT connections.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter. Shut off the gas supply or water service and depressurize the line before working on any threaded connection. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Tighten using a pipe wrench on the hex body; follow applicable code requirements under IFGC or IPC for the service type.
