The BK 521-954BG is a black malleable iron hex bushing designed to reduce a 1-inch male pipe thread to a 3/4-inch female pipe thread. Hex bushings are used to connect pipes of different sizes in gas, air, and water distribution systems. This fitting is manufactured to ANSI/ASTM A-197 material standards, with dimensions conforming to ANSI/ASME B16.14 and B16.39, and threads cut to ANSI B1.20.1. Each unit is individually flag tagged and 100 percent inspected and quality tested before leaving the factory. The Mueller logo is cast directly into the body of each fitting.
This hex bushing is suited for residential and light commercial piping applications where a threaded pipe size reduction is needed in-line. Typical install scenarios include gas supply lines, compressed air systems, and general plumbing distribution headers. The male thread is sized at 1 inch and the female thread at 3/4 inch, making this a standard reducing bushing for common pipe transitions. Plumbers and pipefitters working with black iron systems will encounter this style of fitting frequently in both new construction and retrofit work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard component for black iron threaded pipe systems using 1-inch to 3/4-inch reducing connections.
Installation of black iron pipe fittings is typically performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters in accordance with IFGC and IPC requirements for the applicable system type. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten — use a properly sized pipe wrench on the hex body to achieve a secure, leak-free connection without stressing the fitting.
