The BK 521-953BG is a black malleable iron hex bushing designed to reduce a 1-inch male NPT thread down to a 1/2-inch female NPT thread. This fitting is used to connect pipes or components of different diameters within gas, air, and general plumbing piping systems. The hexagonal body allows for wrench engagement during installation. Material conforms to ANSI/ASTM A-197. Threads conform to ANSI B1.20.1. Dimensions conform to ANSI/ASME B16.14 and B16.39. Each fitting is individually flag tagged and Mueller logo is cast into the body.
This bushing is commonly used in residential and light commercial gas piping, compressed air distribution, and black iron pipe assemblies. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this type of fitting when transitioning between pipe sizes at valves, regulators, meters, or equipment connections. It is sold and priced per each unit with a minimum order quantity of 5.
Designed as a standard OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for black iron pipe systems using 1-inch to 1/2-inch NPT threaded connections in gas, air, and general fluid service applications.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or HVAC technicians in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC requirements. Shut off the gas supply or depressurize the system before working on any threaded connection. Apply an appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service type to all threads before assembly. Do not overtighten; snug wrench-tight engagement is standard practice for threaded iron fittings.
