The BK 408-030 is a Schedule 80 PVC threaded nipple used for connecting sections of pipe in pressurized liquid transport systems. Sized at 2 inches by 3 inches, it is machined to IPS (iron pipe size) dimensions and threaded to NPT (National Pipe Thread) standards, ensuring compatibility with standard pipe fittings and valves. The Schedule 80 wall thickness provides greater pressure tolerance than Schedule 40, making it appropriate for demanding residential and light commercial plumbing applications. Plumbers and pipefitters install this nipple as a short connector between fittings, valves, or equipment ports. It meets ASTM D1785 specifications for rigid PVC pressure-rated pipe.
This nipple is suited for water supply, irrigation, industrial fluid transfer, and general liquid transport applications where a corrosion-resistant, pressure-rated connection is required. The PVC construction resists rust and chemical degradation, making it a practical choice in both indoor and outdoor settings. It is typically installed in systems where metal nipples would be prone to corrosion or where a lightweight fitting is preferred.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard fitting for Schedule 80 PVC piping systems using NPT-threaded connections in residential and commercial plumbing applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Apply pipe thread compound or PTFE sealing tape to the threaded portion of the nipple before assembly to ensure a leak-free seal. Avoid over-tightening, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque. Shut off and depressurize the system before removing or installing any threaded fittings.
