The BK 403-480 is a Schedule 80 PVC threaded nipple designed for the transport of water and other liquids in plumbing and industrial piping systems. Measuring 0.5 inches in diameter and 48 inches in length, this nipple is manufactured to IPS (iron pipe size) standards and threaded to NPT (National Pipe Thread) specifications. The Schedule 80 wall thickness provides greater pressure rating and mechanical strength compared to Schedule 40, making it suitable for demanding service conditions. It meets ASTM D1785 specifications. Pipe thread compound or sealing tape must be applied to the threaded portion before assembly to ensure a leak-free joint.
This nipple is used in residential and commercial plumbing, irrigation, chemical handling, and industrial fluid transport applications. The 48-inch length suits installations requiring a longer run between fittings without an additional coupling. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters use this nipple where a corrosion-resistant, non-metallic threaded connection is specified. It is compatible with standard NPT fittings and valves.
Designed for use with standard 0.5-inch NPT-threaded fittings, valves, and couplings in Schedule 80 PVC piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Always apply pipe thread compound or PTFE sealing tape to the male threads before making up the joint. Hand-tighten first, then use a strap wrench to avoid cracking the PVC body — do not use metal pipe wrenches directly on PVC without protection. De-pressurize and drain the system fully before removing or replacing any threaded nipple.
